Quartz has been broken down into tiny granules over time by the action of water and wind, creating silica sand. Companies engaged in the recovery of oil and natural gas from both conventional and unconventional resource plays frequently employ commercial silica sand as a proppant. The resource is also used in industrial processes to create products we use every day, including glass, building supplies, cosmetics, electronics, and even renewable materials. The phrase "industrial sand" is typically used to describe high purity silica sand products with precise size. Compared to typical concrete and asphalt gravels, it is a more exact product.
